Mental Objects
August 5 - September 5, 2010
Opening Reception: Thursday, August 5, 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Mental Objects is an exploration of thought through abstract and figurative ink and graphite drawings. The featured work, renderings of ethereal, free floating forms entangled among webs of neurons, symbolize the artist's electrical flow of brain activity and visual matter.
Jessee, a recent graduate of Parsons The New School for Design, has since entered a period of artistic ambiguity. "My newer work is very different from what I've usually been doing. I often enjoy drawing from photographs, but my current work arises from free-floating thought. Here I've tried to use my mind as a drawing instrument."
The work features various kinds of drawing styles and uses of several different techniques within one piece. Inclusions of hyper-realism, miniature portraiture, graphic elements and stylized motifs imbed each drawing with unique figurative and abstract forms. The variegated drawing styles are an expression of the many different types of emotions and feelings emitted from the central nervous system.
Jessee will also be displaying select pencil portraits in a separate part of the gallery. Her current work will be shown in a series of 8, mediumscale drawings.
