Appropriated Objects

December 16 - January 15, 2011
Opening Reception: Thursday, Dec. 16, 6:00 - 9:00 PM

Appropriated Objects brings together two riveting New York artists who assemble stunning works of art using materials with unique origins.

Tyrome Tripoli and Richard Lund bring together various materials such as metal, plastic and rubber creating a harmony as natural as a piano's ebony and ivory. Just as Yin and Yang, Appropriated Objects unites two artists who fashion their creations using new materials or found objects.

Tyrome Tripoli exhibits his Found Surface Series showing his ability to create new art while leaving the found objects "as is". The materials become transformed as the referential information of the object's past life is obscured. Tripoli's Constructions are a series of disparate elements that are assembled into unexpected juxtapositions. The objects are connected with the utmost precision, fastened together with threaded rod, washers, and bolts. Tripoli shares, "My intention is to highlight the discreet beauty found in the commonly overlooked."

Richard Lund is the perfect Yin to Tyrome Tripoli's Yang. Lund fashions new materials to create his art. Repetition is his theme and motivation as one can easily see in the circular leitmotif throughout Lund's work.
